Instructions
Step 1:
You'll want to plan your Rube Goldberg Machine before you start building it in Unity. Otherwise, things could get messy quickly and you'll end up redoing a lot of work.
Watch the 75 ideas video to help you brainstorm what you'd like to do.
Some examples of things you could include in your machine are:
-
- Floors, Pathways, Ramps
- Walls, Gates
- Balls, Dominos, Blocks
- Wheels, Spinners
- Teeter Totters, Tippers
- Springs, Launchers
- Moving Platforms, Elevators
- Etc
To earn a full score in future assignments, you will want to include at least 8 things that use these:
-
- Motors
- Hinges
- Springs
And, you'll want to have ways to incorporate these:
-
- Hard materials
- Bouncy materials
- Slippery materials
Step 2:
Grab two sheets of blank or graph paper and a pencil. Avoid pen since you'll likely need to erase. This does not need to be artistic. This is a building plan.
First Sheet:
-
- Layout a basic path of movement through your machine as you would see it from either the top or side.
- Add rough sketches to your path showing the basic features of your Unity scene.
- Sketch, label or describe the things needed in each of the key areas of your path.
Second Sheet:
-
- Sketch your ball's movement path from a different point of view (e.g. draw the side if you already drew the top).
- Clarify anything that wasn't clear from the other vantage point.
Step 3:
Once another person can recognize what you are trying to do, then you are ready submit your plan for approval.
