06: Basic Scene in Blender
Learning Target
- Add objects to a scene
- Move, rotate and scale objects
Instructions
This assignment is graded with a rubric.
There are 12 points possible on the rubric, but 10 points will be considered full credit.
Step 1:
Start Blender and save your scene right away.

Choose your H: drive as a location to save your file.
-
- Files are backed up regularly
- Older versions can be recovered if needed
- Can be accessed from other workstations in the room if your hard drive fails

You should always give your scene a descriptive name so you:
-
- Don't overwrite other scenes
- Can find your scene later by its name
![]()
By saving your scene early, Blender will begin creating backups of your scene every few minutes.
Step 2:
Add these shapes to your scene shapes:
-
- Plane
- Cube
- Cylinder
- UV Sphere
Arrange the shapes so they don't overlap and appear to be sitting on the plane (not in the air). Arrange these 4 shapes as close to this as possible.
Step 3:
Add 3 more objects to your scene. They can be of any type as long as they are visible to the camera.
Challenge: Add custom materials to at least 2 of your objects.
Step 4:
At least 4 of your objects must be physically touching (but not passing through) the plane.
Hint: Use Snap to help you set objects on the plane.
Step 5:
Render a picture of your scene. You can do this in one of two different ways:
-
- Press F12
- Use the Render menu and then choose Render Image.

NOTE: If your render doesn't show your scene, then you'll need to move the camera.
Step 6:
IMPORTANT NOTE: A render is not the same as a screenshot! If you submit a screenshot, it will reduce your score.
Save your render to a file using the Image menu. Be sure to give it a good name so you can find it.
