Instructions
This assignment will ensure that everyone is ready for the next material assignment. In that assignment, we will get our first look at textured materials (not just a solid color).
Step 1:
Choose one of the following templates to begin with:
| Disc | Square | Spiral |
|
|
|
|
Download the .blend file for the template you have chosen.
Step 2:
Open the file in Blender and select the pattern shape (e.g. Disc, Square or Spiral). Then, find the material properties in the right panel.

Add a new material.

Set the Base color of your material by clicking on the white box. You can also set other properties later, if you have time.

Step 3:
Add at least 3 more material slots to your object.

Create new materials for each slot using the New button. Also, rename the materials so they are easy to identify.

Change the appearance of each material to match the names you used.

Save your Blender project whenever you do a major step using CTRL+S. You don't want to lose any work!
Step 4:
Enter Edit Mode using the TAB key. Then, assign materials to faces to create an interesting color pattern. Do not change the mesh...only assign different materials to its faces.

Step 6:
Go back to Object mode. Unhide the text object in the scene using the scene hierarchy.

Select the text and then switch to Edit Mode.
Backspace to remove the existing text and then enter your own name.
Step 6:
When you are happy with the results, follow these steps:
-
- Press NUM0 to enter Camera view (unless you're already there)
- Press F12 to render the scene to an image
- Save the image by pressing ALT+S to save the render
You can also use the menu: Image-->Save
